Goodbyes Are Getting Harder
This morning we had to say goodbye to Mimi who came to visit and help us with Emma while AJ and Emma stood up in a wedding. It’s getting harder and harder when we have to say goodbye to family. As Emma gets older and interacts more, I can see her bonding with her grandparents, cousins, uncles and aunts. It makes the time we have together all that more important. Emma got to snuggle Mimi and introduce her to the movie Frozen. I’m sure she would call that the highlight of the trip!
This weekend, we spent time in Colorado Springs at our friends’ wedding at the Broadmoor. We have known Joe for about 12 years beginning when AJ began coaching him for Ironman. We met Steph about a year and half ago while her and Joe were dating. It was so special to be a part of their day as witness their union. I am grateful that Emma was asked to be a flower girl, and I know it meant a lot to AJ to be asked to be a groomsmen.
I treasure that I was able to listen to stories about Joe and Steph growing up and the relationships they have built over the years with their friends and family. It has been many many years since AJ and I have been to a wedding to witness the joining of two hands in marriage. And as we are about to celebrate 13 years in June, it was a blessing to me to be a part of their day (and wedding weekend) as a way of reflecting on the vows AJ and I made to each other on the top of Beaver Creek mountain. When life throws obstacles and stresses my way, or AJ and I are arguing, I struggle to always live up to those smaller promises I made. One of the readings was all about saying sorry- something I for sure need to be better about.
Joe and Steph’s families have always made us feel so welcome like we are a part of their families. Joe’s dad has such a zest for life that is so refreshing to see. I have never seen a man smile more. Their longtime friends are also the nicest. Once again, it was hard to say goodbye to the people we feel are family.
It was a busy weekend with an added stop at Garden of the Gods on Friday before the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner and a visit to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo after a brunch Sunday morning.
And now, it is time to slow down again. This article puts true meaning to the beauty of slowing down. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/04/02/stop-here-this-is-the-place-parenting-photos-_n_6980856.html
Hope you are having a great week!
