Taking Care of You
I’ve never been good at taking care of myself. Something always became a bigger priority. After Emma came along, those somethings really turned to someone. After a very difficult 2015 (I’ll save that for another post), I decided that this year I need to take care of me. I still have my big priorities from family to writing, but I have learned to refocus my priorities to find time to nurture what is important to me including my overall well being mentally and physically.
My Power Sheets have been awesome to remind me of my goals, to say goodbye to what fears stand in my way and to help me take care of me. I’ve been doing pretty good sticking to them minus the consistency of working out.
I finally went to the doctor yesterday after not feeling great. Fatigue, sleeping issues, pain on my side, trouble working out and recovering from working out and mood swings all were red flags. I was diagnosed with PCOS- Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. It explains so much about the past year. I was put on medicine, and I’m hoping it will help. If I feel better, I’m also hoping I can be more consistent working out.
For years and years, my dear husband AJ has told me I need to take time to care for myself. I’m not sure why I finally decided to listen (maybe it’s what happened in 2015), but I know I am a better person because of it.
It’s hard to not want to be a super mom in the world of social media and Pinterest. But, who defines what a super mom is? For me, it’s that blonde spunky 2.5 year old asleep right now in her big girl bed. When she tells me she missed me when I take time away to work on an article or she smiles at me when we twirl together in dance class, I know I am her super mom and that is all that matters to me. So if you want to be a super mom (or dad), start with yourself. Take Care of You!
