Summer Friends

It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks as we visited both sets of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. To say we had a blast is an understatement. To say we are exhausted doesn’t even put a dent in it. To say our hearts are full doesn’t even come close. It was amazing and so worth it to see Emma spend time with both sides of our families!

One of the best parts about our trip to Lake Geneva this past week was that Emma got to see her best friend Maggie. While Maggie and Emma became friends, Maggie’s mom Jobea and I also grew very close. They moved back to Wisconsin from Colorado last fall. IMG_6375At even just their young age, they developed a friendship that will stand the test of time. I have a similar friend like that named Brian that I met when we were just a year or so old. We were the best of buddies. We don’t keep in touch as much as we used to but come birthday time I know he will send me a note and I will do the same for him.

There are old friends that but there are also what I call summer friends. These are the ones that you meet and enjoy life with if only for a small bit of time. It’s kind of similar to what people refer to as a summer romance. Emma met a summer friend on the shores of Lake Geneva over the Independence weekend named Aubrey. IMG_6377She didn’t look like Emma but she was a ringer personality wise. They had a blast running on the beach, playing at the park and being kids! We may see Aubrey again at Abbey Springs at some point, but maybe we won’t. Even if she just came in and out of Emma’s life quickly, that summer friendship was worth investing in for the value that it brought in making Emma so happy during that time. Here she is with Aubrey, Aubrey’s sister and their dad watching the fireworks.

It was also so fun to see Emma with her cousins. They made music videos and danced. They played on the sand, colored and made the most of their time together. Despite the large age gap, they all do their best to show her so much love and attention! Even though she doesn’t turn three till the end of July, we celebrated her birthday early too!

We also crossed a few things off her summer bucket list- catching fireflies, a water balloon fight, having a snow cone and making new friends.

Emma even got her first Gordy’s sweatshirt- an almost right of passage for anyone that spends time in Fontana and Lake Geneva in the summer.

We are home now for a long time. It will be nice to get back to a routine for a month or so before school starts for Emma. House type stuff has been pretty neglected lately. I really need to get working on a complete basement purge. And there is always writing I need to get done!

Here are a few more of my favorite pictures from the trip!

Adventure on,
