Using the title from one of my favorite songs to work out to by Basement Jaxx, this week’s progress was more about clearing mental clutter rather than physical clutter. I unsubscribed myself from almost 200 email subscription lists using enroll.me. OK, I still have some work to do in that arena. But, wasn’t I just saying in my last post about minimalism that it will always be a work in progress!
I went to catalogchoice.com and stopped over ten catalogs from being mailed to me.
I removed all the apps I don’t use on my iPhone. I unfollowed the kitchey Instagramers that tempt me with their cute girl clothes etc.I even cleaned up my laptop and desktop home screens!
I love this post from simplyfiercely.com about how it is important to free your mind from things that aren’t things that help you find balance and peace. I wanted to make up excuses to not work on my article pitches this week because of self doubt that they wouldn’t be accepted. I didn’t want to apply to the Washington Post OnParenting talent pool because the gremlins inside my brain. But, I worked through it because having that attitude isn’t going to get me anywhere. It isn’t going to get me towards my end goals.
I started slowly saying no to things to give myself more mental me time. I notice Emma does better when we have more unscheduled time too. Just asking her what she wants to do that day versus laying out a full schedule everyday has been refreshing.
The biggest thing I started doing is an evening “mental dumping.” Before I go to bed, I look at my bullet journal to remind myself of how far I’ve come already a few weeks into the new year and to refocus on . I created a gratitude page I add to nightly and a mental garbage page where I put things down that take my mental energy away in a negative way!
I think clearing the mental clutter is going to be the longest work in progress. And, I think it is something I will need to revisit time and time again.
